Who is Eddie the Magic Monk?

Since I am starting a blog on my website as well as having started an Instagram recently, I thought I would write a new introduction to introduce myself to the new audience who don’t know much about me.

My name’s Eddie, I’m a high school IT & Maths teacher, in Brisbane, Australia.  I started building my Youtube channel about 6 years ago and have since accumulated 13 Million Views. My videos range from High School Maths, IT (Programming), Fitness (Tennis, Basketball, & Tai Chi), Partner Dancing (Swing & Latin), and Magic (mostly card tricks and some mind reading). I also do some travel videos (e.g. China & Korea) and how-to videos, such as how to cook a basic vegan noodle soup, or how to fix a leaking tap.

I know, that’s a huge variety of stuff. Sometimes I would forget how to do something and have to look up my own tutorial to teach myself how to do it again.

When I first started building my Youtube channel, one of my original intentions was to use it as a teaching resource for my class. I created a video on how to find the area of a shape and suggested my students watch this video for revision at home. The next day I came back to class, I discovered that this video had 0 views. I gave up on the idea of using Youtube for teaching. A month later, I looked at this same video and discovered that I had 4000 views. I looked at the analytics and discovered that people from all over the world (Except Australia) had watched this video and commented saying how awesome a teacher I was. I got excited and kept making videos for the whole world to watch, and just kept teaching my classes as I did normally without any reference to Youtube.

Nowadays I would walk around the school and students would tell me that they discovered my Youtube video on some math theorem and that it really helped them, without any prompt from me to watch my videos. They even call me the Magic Monk sometimes, which I thought is kind of funny.

Anyway, nice to meet you and I hope to hear more from you in the future. In the mean time, here is a picture of myself participating in the Twilight Race in Brisbane in 2018. More to come about this race soon!
